With a creative mind and a knack for chemistry, Atlanta native Peter Kiley’s journey to becoming Monday Night Brewing Brewmaster is one-of-a-kind. Originally planning to pursue medical school, Kiley studied chemistry in college at the University of Georgia, but his free spirit ultimately led him in a different direction. Soon after graduation, Kiley made his way to Napa Valley, Calif., where he worked at a number of highly respected vineyards. From serving as a harvest analyst and assisting with vineyard management, to becoming a certified sommelier, Peter used his time in California to learn from leading experts in the field, hone in on the skills required to master high-end alcohol production, and develop a true appreciation for liquid.
In 2011, Kiley moved back home to Georgia where he took on the role of Assistant Winemaker at the highly acclaimed Chateau Elan Winery & Resort. After that, he moved on to acting as Sommelier and Private Events Manager at established restaurant, wine store, and wine and cooking school Vino Venue. After a chance meeting with the owners, Kiley landed a role at Monday Night Brewing in 2013. Since then, he has worked his way through every position in the production department – from assistant brewer, brewer, head brewer and lab director, to finally landing the title of Brewmaster in 2018. Blending his knowledge and passion for winemaking, he established Monday Night’s barrel program. The success of that program resulted in the Garage location opening in 2017, where he and the team focus on developing wood-aged beers and specialty brands.
Kiley is widely recognized as a master in the beer industry and beyond. With a mission to study, support and advance the art of craft beer, he has traveled on behalf of Monday Night Brewing to judge national and international beer competitions, and speak at well-known networking events such as the Craft Brewers Conference and World Brewing Congress. The outcome of his work has resulted in Monday Night brews winning major awards on a national and international scale. While every aspect of Monday Night’s success is certainly a team effort, Kiley plays a major part in its creative direction – from the liquid that they make to the way it is branded. A storyteller, engineer, chemist and innovator, Peter’s professional philosophy aligns with the Monday Night mission – to deepen relationships over some of the best beer in the country – through craftsmanship, connection and quality.
